Wittnauer 11SR

Recommended Posts

Im overhauling a Wittnauer 11SR movement.  Ranfft has a C11SR movement on the site.  It looks the same but mine has no "C" stamped

http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&0&2uswk&Wittnauer_C11SR

The mainspring barrel lid is printed with "unbreakable greaseless mainspring"

After i wash this spring do i treat it like all others and grease it with 8200 and the barrel wall with 8217?

Or do i leave the spring greaseless??

Thanks

I don't recall if 11SR has the detached manual wind complication.

You are reusing an old barrel/spring which expectedly reserves less power than it used to , so I test the unit for power reseve, if less than 30 hrs, I would go for enhancing the power reserve, grease and it may come to renewing the spring and if you see any sign of wear on the wall or bottom of the barrel !  the time to address it is now.

Good luck.

According to the Tech Sheets for the AS1701 of which this is based the spring should be greased . The braking effect comes into play after 6 turns  40Hrs of power reserve,  and it should slip smoothly.   I assume that you have the doucmentation to hand.  Available should you so desire.
