Is it ok to Demagnetize the stepper motor to remove metal bits, and then magnetize it back?

Never demagnetize a quartz watch! To remove metal bits use rodico...and welcome to the forum!

I doubt that you would be able to demagnetise the rotor as it is a permanent magnet. Trying to do so probably isn't a great idea though, your best net is rodico and patience.

It's perfectly safe, but it won't help much with removing the metal bits.

Rodico is your best friend for this :)
