Canon pinion is stuck

Recommended Posts

This is an doxa pocket watch movement.  Didn't figure out the caliber yet. The Canon pinion is sitting in there really tight and i can't get it out. Is it ment to be like this?  Im afraid to break something if i will pull any harder. It is also completely flat...so it is difficult to grab.

Any ideas?

Greetings, Mike

This is the old system. There is a pin that goes completely through the center wheel, and the canon pinion is tightly fitted to the end. The pin rotates inside the center wheel when setting the time. To remove, if the center wheel is jeweled on the bridge, take off the bridge. Support the center wheel in a staking tool (pass the pivot through a hole or in a stump), and with a flat punch one smart smack with a hammer on the pin protruding from the canon pinion. If the center wheel isn't jeweled in the bridge, normally a smack on the pin with the bridge on is OK. Once quick firm tap- many small taps and you risk to mushroom the end of the pin.
