Firstly let me thank everyone who has given me advice this week, on movements, adhesives & other stuff.

My final question for the week is.. If the second hand jumps/skips while sweeping, would this point to the train wheels namely the 4th wheel SS or could it just require a good service? It's only very slight around certain areas everytime, namely around the 5, 10, 30 & 55 marker. It keeps good time & has good PR.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It's not a movement I'm familiar with, but if the second hand is driven in a similar way as the Omega 561 that I have just worked on it may be the same issue that I had. Read the last couple of threads on the Omega 561 movement.

It may also be something as simple as a slack hand, just a thought.

Thanks Geo,. Just read the thread & boy what a nice watch. With regards to the leaf spring etc.. I can hold my hands up & say I really don't have enough technical knowledge to even begin to look at that. I think i'll just live with it until my abilities catch up to my enthusiasm.

Hi Geo, I've just looked on the miyota 8215 parts list list & there is no mention of a leaf spring. However, there is a 'friction spring for sweep second pinion' is this what you mean by leaf spring?

      Maybe you had a bad one H, the cheap blue one i use has been fine for nearly 3 years now. It demags enough to stop the tiniest of screws sticking to the carbon steel tweezers i use. If it were to fail at some point in the future i very  probably would go up a level of device just because.

      Unfortunately yes! Magnetism can wreak havoc on a mechanical watch movement if the balance hairspring becomes magnetised. The cheap blue Chinese demagnetise-rs are useless if you feed them the wrong voltage (> 110 V), and even so, they don't work very well. The one I got when I was new worked so poorly that it drove me nuts. Eventually, I was lucky to get a Greiner Magnomatic for a little money. It's an amazing tool that can be trusted to do its job perfectly in seconds. A new one comes with a price tag of  £885 excluding tax and shipping, and if you think that's a bit steep (I believe most of us would) and can't find a used one I'd go with @Jon's recommendation.
