Hi All

I'm thank full for all the help received from members thus far.  My recently completed AS1700 restoration was unusually successful due to forum members help.

I'm now doing battle with a Seiko 6119A.  I'm unable to open the mainspring barrel even after soaking it in lighter fluid for a day.  I see that there's a debate as to whether these barrels are made to open. Conversely,  there's a video of Mark opening one.

Using thumbnails to push down on the gear teeth doesn't do it.  Any ideas?

Thank you

Charlie

Seiko barrels are made not to be opened. Years ago, you would buy a complete unit. Those days are long gone due to parts becoming obsolete. You will need to press the arbor to remove the cap. Be careful not to buckle it.
