  1. Hi Ishima, I can assure you I do get a mirror (black) finish with hand polishing. When I have a spare minute I'll post my technique along with some pictures of my process and results.

  2. Hello zenon, Unfortunatly K&D is no longer in business. The plate is the most expensive piece on these kits and is described as just that in the K&D stake manual. The manuual suggests always use a stump or bench block on the plate to avoid this kind of damage. I fear your only option is to watch eBay and purchase another "parts" staking set to get a good plate. They come up often at very low cost, there are a number on now. The newstyle staking set has the same plate as any of the inverto kits and I believe, even the non inverto. The cost to have a machinist make one would far exceed buying many a replacement kit. I hope thatt helps, although not a happy out come. Stu

  3. Well done Will for helping to keep our heritage alive and well, far too many historical treasures from the past have been bulldozed to rubble in the name of progress.

  4. Hi Geo, Excellent idea to post about polishing. I myself can't do it right even if my life depended on it. I'll be anxiously waiting for your much in demand post! Cheers, Bob

  5. An interesting piece of kit Lawson, thanks for the heads up. :) To be honest, the watch that she polished looked better, but if you look closely at the highly polished areas, there are still a lot of micro dings. I wouldn't be happy with that. :( That said, if you get one and take a bit more time and care the results would be a lot better. I do all my refinishing by hand to ensure that I keep all edges are kept as per original. It does take a fair bit of time and patience doing it this way, but being retired I've got plenty of time and actually enjoy the process.
