  1. I was contemplating the purchase of a Seiko 5 (online) and noticed in the pictures of the movement that it looks like the oscillating weight has been rubbing on the movement. I assume the bearing the weight spins on will need replacement. That bearing seems to be part of the frame it is attached to (according to the Seiko parts list) and not a separate piece. My questions is, can this bearing be purchased and installed separately? I am waiting to hear back from my local parts supplier to see if the bearing and frame assembly is even available. The auto mechanic in me wants to remove the old bearing and install a new one in the original frame. Here is a pic of the movement and what the complete replacement part (Seiko 193 601) looks like... Cheers! Roger

  3. Hi Gary, I used to struggle a bit re-fitting the balance when I started. Once you understand exactly how it functions and practice a few times removing and fitting one you'll be OK. I wrote this to help someone out before:- http://www.watchrepairtalk.com/topic/575-re-install-balance-wheel-on-eta-2824-2/

  4. Hi Micky, I was looking at your pictures on flickr and was amused to see we have almost, I mean, almost the same equipment (of the stuff that counts). It is as if we had shopped the same stores! I opened a thread about presses since I'm about to get a Horotec or similar and I see you already have one of those. Your comments there will be greatly appreciated. I'm using now the same one you show that broke, probably Indian. It is not very precise...I also have many movements either fixed or in line to be fixed! Amazing! In any case, I think you are more resourceful than me considering the incredible job you are doing with your Elma and what you are trying to do here. Excellent job, keep it up! Mark, we seem to be thinking alike about those trays. I figured I could use the top one for storing odds and ends that didn't require a lid too. I still will put something on top to protect the contents even if I use only a rag for this purpose considering it is dusty here where I live....aaaah! not a very pretty solution I guess! :)
