Change the sound of a bellmatic

Hi everyone, 

Just got myself a nice bellmatic, I'm enjoying it and would like to know if there's a way to change the way it sounds, like maybe modify the sounding piece of metal, it would be great if one could play with the sound.

I'm guessing that if you made the special spring that makes the noise from a different material or, more importantly, if you changed the dimension and shape, the sound would be different... That's the only thing that I can think of...
