Cutting the slot on a winding stem

Hi everyone, 

I'd like to know what graver to use to cut the slot on a stem, I tried shaping some gravers but it has not worked, what do you guys use.

You need a graver with a straight front edge just under the width of the slot you need, this under width gives you little movement in which to work. This is achieved by grinding the graver down to the required width, then finish the edge with an arkansas stone and a little oil to form the cutting edge.  That is what I used to do.
