Wonder if you can tell me the difference between this two movements. Need a friction pinion for a AS1883 . Have an old  package where there has been a pinion in. says 17462e on this. But when searching cousinsuk it says friction pinion for intermidiate wheel AS1746. Just out of curiosity in wonder what is the difference between a AS 1746 and a 17462e movement? Can't find any info on google about the 17462e movement.

Hi, This peeked my interest as I have an AS1746 in a Rotary dress watch which is on my bench to be looked at (wound tight but does not run)!  

Whilst researching I noted that if you go on Cousins' downloads for Watch parts>branded>AS>As watch parts and look at last pages which show parts interchangeability.  I assume the friction pinion is the canon pinion for which 2 types are indicated as part nos 240 & 243.  There is a 1746 and a 1746-2e shown which seems to be used in several other calibers.  May be of interest.

That is probably just the second edition they mean on the package . This is the wheels i have. Took a real close look in the microscope. Nothing i could see in the loupe. I could see they where worn. So have ordered a new set of wheels. The middle wheel you could call a cannon pinion? Probaly the same problem i have . But my watch runs. But loosing a lot of time on the hands.

Just got round to sorting my AA 1746 in a gents Rotary.  Though fully wound it would not run and the balance would not beat much at all.  Let down MS but movement seemed tight all through.  Decided to strip and clean (the watch that is!!). Could not see any faults apart from 1 corrosion spot on the mainplate.  Was quite dirty but not overly so that this would cause it to not run.

When reassembling the train bridge in toto, it was very stiff and hard to spin.  Decided to assemble it wheel by wheel to sort out problem.  Left driving wheel 201/1 in-situ as had no tool to remove it but the cannon seemed to work ok. Tried with just 201/1 in bridge, then 201/1 plus 3rd. then added centre sec wheel.  All was well to here and spinning nice and freely even after fitting barrel.  When I fitted the escape wheel, all was well until tightening the bridge screws.  I found that  if I tightened the bridge screw furthest from the escape wheel first in sequence, then it tightened up. So I tightened the screw nearest the escape wheel first in sequence and it remained free running.  Progressively added the barrel, setting wheel etc whilst checking free running and all was well.  The pallet and balance were added and the balance started beating right away. 

Still need to finish lube of escapement and balance, then will check timing.  Did not have to replace any parts, so don't really know why it should bind as it did.

Finally got it all together and running and setting well.  Runs to within 5 s/day and fairly even in all positions.  The beat error is a bit high (0.7 - 0.9) but with my experience of ruining hairsprings I am leaving this alone as the overall timekeeping is good !!!!! 

Checked all my dis-assembly pics and cannot see anything out of place or broken before taking apart.  So I may never know why it was jammed up, maybe a bit of dirt or a previous repairer had had the same problem with me when fitting the train bridge and let it go.  I got the watch (a Rotary which dates back to 1970'-80's)  from my local charity shop (I try and repair/renovate their non-runners on an FOC basis as my hobby in retirement) so have no history.
