I have a Timex Easy Reader whose case is becoming corroded where it rests against my wrist. I want to remove the works from the case so I can then polish the case without danger of contaminating the works with grit from the grinding and polishing process. I never have done watch work, and don't know how to remove the "winding knob" from its shaft. Can anyone help me with this, please?

Welcome to the forum.

It would help if you post a picture of the watch with the back removed. It will be a lot easier to describe if you do that.

Thanks for the cue to use the full site. I'm on an iPad, … actually two different iPads. My main iPad Air now has iOS 8 installed, and it's not really working well. The one I'm on now is my iPad Mini, and it's got the "old" iOS 7.1.2, and it seems to be ticking right along.

Anyhow, here's the photo. I've since put the back back, after a careful swabbing with alcohol and a Q-tip to get off as much crud as would let go, and then I spiffed up the case where it's corroded by using a wire brush in my Foredom flexible shaft tool––two different brushes, actually. First steel, then brass, … and now the case is looking pretty much better. Also, yielded to impulse and bought another Timex Easy Reader on eBay for thirty bucks, and that's in the mail right now. I can easily take the back back off the larger-faced Timex which was the watch with the presenting issue, and can see about tinkering further to remove the "winding knob" if I so desire. I somtimes enjoy working with small things, and have a device that will hold the watch works steady, … and so this could be fun.

Again, then: anybody know and care to share?

Thanks. Jimmy

Is it the case that the picture has still not made it? I've tried a couple of times to post it, and by the post of bobm12 I get the sense that he's not seeing anything. Guys––if there's not a picture showing up in this thread, would you please hand-hold me through how to do things to get a JPEG to the forum? I'd appreciate it.

Daniel––I did that on two different occasions. Is it still not showing up out there in internet land??

I'm going to do it again-again right now and maybe the third time will be the charm.

There is a preview button you might want to click to see if it all comes out allright. The trick is once it uploads you need to add it to the message.
