Help Needed on Broken Pocket Watch Escape Wheel Pivot

Hi Everyone,

I'd really appreciate some pointers if possible.

I have a key-wound pocket watch with a broken escape wheel pivot.  The movement seems to be entirely anonymous, with no easily identifiable markings to indicate the caliber or manufacturer - with the exception of two single characters - a '6' and a '9' or they could be stylised single quotes - and a movement number.  I've measured the movement's diameter at approximately 41.5mm or 18.5 ligne.

For now, I'm ruling out re-pivoting as I don't have the required equipment [this will follow at some point, I'm sure], so on the assumption that the movement cannot easily be identified and a replacement wheel sourced, are there options such as using my staking set to remove the arbor and replace it?  Replacement arbors don't seem to be readily available - is this a reasonable statement?

If I can find a replacement arbor of the same length and diameter, presumably the pinion is a friction fit over the arbor and so with care, it should be possible to complete remove the old and re-fit a new pinion?

Thanks for any support all.

Steve.

Theoretically yes it is possible, assuming the pinion is a friction fit. I would carefully measure the existing one first in case of damage when removing it. Then one could be made on the lathe, or a replacement found, and staked back in. Not knowing the maker or anything will make finding replacement parts quite tricky. I'd post some pictures and see what the community thinks.
