Any Quartz Sleuths Identify This Movement?

Recommended Posts

I've a Casio diver's watch that was sent to me for a new battery but unfortunately the circuit is dead. It's not worth much but has sentimental value so I'd like to get it running again. It has a Casio 708 movement but after a bit of Googling it appears that Casio never made analogue movements and they were usually either Miyota or Epson but the only markings on this one are Casio. Here's a few pictures -

I've seen other watches with the same movement going for less than £20 but I'd prefer to buy new, even if it means transplanting the new circuit into the old movement, and if it works out cheaper than buying a donor watch then that's a bonus.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Miyota, Casio probably had name added during mfg/assembly, so it would appear to be theirs. Where did you get the "708" from? Can you ID the watch model number?

It's been my experience with these type of transplants, (changing parts from donors), that usually, unless it is a known good part, you'll spend more time and effort and end up with same bad parts. IMHO, your better off going with new,if we can positively ID. Hope that helps.

I'd like to say I spent hours of clever research but it was dumb luck. Grabbed one of the quartz catalogs I had opened it up and looking down on the page I opened up to found the watch. so googling it doesn't look like it's a really popular movement not very many references to it.

JohnR725! :thumbsu: you are da man!

I did do a bit of searching, (not google) and attempted to side by side compare with pics, but alas, f ell short of the objective.

Dynam0humm, I humbly apologize for my hasty guess, but now you have clear path to replace, good luck!

p.s. love the handle, not many remember Zappa and his quaint way of turning a lyric.

Outstanding John and many thanks. There's a working watch on ebay with the same movement for a similar price but I think brand new is the way to go for obvious reasons. Cheers!

I've found that there's a rectangular box with the movement code on the back of Casio's. The model number for this one is MD-753 and Boley.de list the movement as a QD-708. This one has the box with 708 in it.
