Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a simple question. I've serviced a few pocket watches and fooled with a couple of cheap wrist watches. A friend asked me to look at an Ernest Borel Cocktail watch. He gave it to me with the crown off and asked if I can get it back on and see if the watch is keeping time. i was able to get the crown back, but the watch is running 2 minutes fast a day. How do I open the back? The back is clear plastic. I'm guessing it's a screw-off, but I can't get it to budge.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome gearbasher, a picture would help identify case and possibly get you the answer to your question faster. Congrats on crown fix, but how did you do that without removing back? 2 min a day ain't too bad for a watch that old, maybe a regulation or magnetic issue, (just guessing) When was the last time it was serviced? (approx.) I did quick search on web to find something like this, (below) someone who has worked on these could hopefully help you further, Alas, I can not.

Welcome again!

Wiley, that photo is exactly what the watch looks like. And Marc's link answers my question.

I have no idea when it was last serviced. My friend just would like it operating decently. He ever said he doesn't  even care what happens to it. But, I care. If I can just regulate it a bit, we'll both be happy.

As far as the crown, it was off the watch and the threads were buggered-up. I just chased them and it screwed on easily.

Thank you both!
