Recommended Posts

Since experimenting on my watchmakers lathe i have been turning metal with hand gravers. i would like to start playing with the cross slide and start turning away a mor substantial amount , bore etc but i have NO idea what to put in the tool post.

i have looked online and in all the videos everyone uses something different, any advice would be appreciated so i can continue practising with the lathe.

Thanks in advance

Many people grind there own tools for there needs. I had a draw full of them, it also helps with what you intend to cut. Here is a link which shows you how to go about such a task. You can buy such tools all ready for you but it will be just a basic set, but it will get you started and you will get to know how to use a cross slide. Don't expect great things right away. Setting up at first can be a task in its own right.
