Bergeon 5356

I was watching a video by Mark using the Bergeon 5356 mainspring winder, and he said that it does not work well with the older blue mainsprings. I was wondering why that is.  (Thanks)

It's the mainspring winder handles that are the problem.

 

So attached images the modern handle the hook itself doesn't actually stick up. You notice they ground the metal away around it. There is a hook the same diameter as the arbor. It's because the new spring is a really really tight in the center anything that sticks up would prevent you from even getting it in and you probably never get it back out again once the spring is into the winder. The older style Springs the blued steel ones have the other style that sticks out. Then I find occasionally entirely different set is needed and I've attached an image of that. It's one of the problems and watch repair that one tool isn't necessarily the ideal solution for everything.
