Greetings from Memphis,

Just finished my watch with ETA 2834 Top Grade movement. The watch is running slow, and on close examination, the seconds per day rate varies from -10 to -12 with the second hand at the twelve  o’clock position to about -20 to -23 with the second hand at the six o’clock position.  A variation of about 10 seconds each revolution . I Have worked with three ETA 2824 movements and their accuracy has always been -+1 second with a beat error slightly about zero.

Any ideas on why the rate would vary this amount?

As always thanks for your comments and a Happy New Year to all, Dave

If you've got variations occurring periodically, you can usually trace it to an issue with the wheel that rotates at that rate. This is slightly complicated in that you have a center seconds hand, so that adds a piece or two to look into. The long thin shaft of that seconds hand is where I'd start in your shoes.

Thanks Specter,

Thats what I was thinking. I’ll pull the movement and take a look. Second hand hub may be out of round and rubbing some where. I can pull the hands and check the regulation to see if the problem is in the movement.

Removed the hands and regulated movement to zero seconds per day. I’ll see if I can find where the hands are hanging up.

Check that the seconds wheel is flat, and not too much endshake, allowing it to touch a bridge or another wheel. The upper jewel can get pushed out a bit if hands have been pushed on too hard.
