I bought a cheap Seiko 7019 with damaged dial. I found a new dial on ebay for a 7009. As they are the same family, and the winders are in the same place, I assumed that it would fit. But when I fit it, the day/date window is at 4 and not at 3 as it should be.

Anyone know why?

Both 7009 and 7019 have day/ date window at 3.

I've never seen one. All the ones I checked had the crown at 4. Probably explains why he has so many NOS dials.

Not sure what you mean about it being at 4?

The crown position. I thought all were at 4 o'clock for 7009 and 7019.

Day/Date windows are always @3 but crown can be @3 or @3.8.

Dial should still fit across movements though so still not sure what you mean.

Sorry, my original post was wrong - I've corrected it.

I thought all 7009/19 had crowns at 4. It seems not, as I bought a dial made for the crown to be at 3. Which means when I fit the dial, it's rotated so that the window is at 4.

I haven't used my new dial feet cutter. I might give it a go 😃

Yes. Now I know what to look for.

Not one of the ads I looked at mentioned the crown position. Annoying

This is like the one I bought - for the crown at 3

And this is with the crown at 4

I have a unisex Seiko which came with crown at 3 ( just a few mm smaller diameter  than gents) some 7019 too were fitted in watch case with crown at 3 .  Guess the (  watch case depends on the collection it belongs to) , mostly in limited Editions.

Google shows images of both with crowns  at 3 and at 4.

I,d keep this one as is , kinda rare.

Are the dial feet in different positions?

Probably a stupid question.

No, not the feet but windows.

Windows are in different positions(with respect to feet), depending on the case No, guess they r different collections.

🤔

The windows are all at 3 (all the ones I've seen are). The feet are at different positions as shown in my pics above.

Right,

Re-edited now:     added  ( with respect to the feet).

We are describing  the same thing only from different view point  🙃.   I think.
