Hi all.....

Just a general question about the original lume colour of WW2 (GSTP) issue pocket watches, both white and black dials.

Does anyone know what they would have looked like brand new? Both in the dark and daytime

Or

What colour is radium in the daylight 🤷🏻‍♂️😁

I ask as I have a couple of these watches without any lume on the hands of dials and I'd like to relume them with something that's as near authentic as can be.

Open to ideas

Cheers Al

I asked a similar question in the following thread. I had an old Universal Geneve wristwatch and wanted to replace the radium, which had turned the usual brown. It seems that the original colour was .... lume colour i.e. pale green.

I used some modern lume, with a tiny bit of brown tinting paste.

Thanks for the reply....and I've just read the thread.

Really interesting....it looks like to me it's a very light duck egg blue/green.

So I suppose I could mix a white/green lume together with a tiny touch of blue

I wonder if that's the same for black and white dials?

I get my lume from killabitz on eBay (after reading elsewhere they were good) but I've had mixed results..dries way too quick and doesn't 'flow'.

What lume/mixing medium do you use and can you explain your 'vintage tinting' knack to me...if you could be so kind?

Cheers Al

I didn't notice any blue, only light green, but maybe that's difference in our monitors.

I bought my green Lume from "Watch Lume com" on ebay.  I also found the vintage tint on ebay. If you look in the other thread, a few below the pic of the hands, you will see it. I read of people using coffee to 'age' lume.

I too had problems with consistency. The stuff supplied from ebay looked liked thin PVA glue. I bought some Bergeon lacquer and thinner from Cousins. Makes it so much easier to apply.

AHH right ok thanks....

I had the same experience with the lume mixing medium....looked like thin PVA.

I tried clear nail varnish but that wasn't good at all.

I'll have a look for the Bergeon lacquer.

Thanks for that 👍👍
