Hi to all,

How do you know if a glue is to be used when fitting an acrylic crystal. Some watches a crystal lift is used to install the crystal and that's it!

I am working on a Poljot 2612.1 movement and there seems to be a layer of gunk where the crystal should sit. It was stubborn to remove using pegwood and now I am unsure how to fit the crystal. (there is no tension ring)

Any advice would be most welcome.

Regards,

Bill.

Malocchio, not all you have low dome crystals that a crystal lift cannot get hold off. You need a different tool such as one of those press fit or the Robur type where you screw down. You shouldn't need glue when fitting a high or low dome glass if you do you have the wrong size.

Round acrylic crystals without tension ring

probably one of the most popular ways to insert round crystals is with a press. In the early days of GS crystal Cabinets usually one of them would have a crystal press foot operated. otherwise you can use one of the hand operated case presses and here's an image of what you're trying to do. You support the crystal on the outer edge and you push in the center preferably with something that's not going to scratch the crystal. Then the entire crystal will shrink with the pressure and of course you want to be careful not to have too much pressure otherwise it shatters and I will skip over how I know that. That's way more common with the foot operated press by the way is you can put a lot of pressure. They case the crystal will shrink and your movement will drop in place and the crystal is held really really nice and tight.

Then I'm also attaching a PDF that explains about this shows how to put some other crystals in and gives some nice crystal information.

Thank you for the information.

The worst thing is sometimes you see that the crystal has been glued with the movement in place spilling glue on the dial.
