Hello I was just wondering if I could get some advice. I just changed the battery on my watch and the small hands that show the day and month on the small dials have fallen off. Could this have been caused by me changing the battery? If so, why?

Possibly they came off due to the dial being loose, and as a result, it lifted away from the movement, pulling the hands off their pinions.

Is there a way to prevent it from happening again? Is it an easy fix?

Check the condition of the dial feet (if any) and that the movement dial feet retainers are actually holding the dial to the movement correctly.

It was quite possibly caused when changing the battery, if the battery is forced or levered out with a screwdriver or something similar it can cause the movement and the dial to move apart which can make a hand pop off.
