Hi all,

Just joined the group and looking forward to learning from everyone. I would like to buy a reasonably priced crystal press and looking for advice on the type of press to purchase. I have been using a crystal lift remover up to this point. I recently purchased a seiko seahorse which has a bezel fit crystal and the bezel popped off so I need a press to install the bezel, the crystal is able to be fit in place by hand. Will I need a deep die to press in place the bezel? I would also like to use the press for crystal installation on other projects - is there a preference for nylon vs aluminum dies? Below are the two presses I was looking at from esslinger - the press with delrin dies may not be deep enough. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Late answer but you need a straight walled die for a bezel. I have just put together a complete (ok one small die missing but it's probably useless anyway) set of Seiko crystal press and dies. The ones on the left are aluminum straight walled, meant for support and bezel/snapback pressing (S-220). Cream colored are S-160 meant for certain types of mineral glasses with a fixed ring (many old King Seikos) and the sets of four are S-150 for tension ring acrylic crystals. I first got the blue plastic set and didn't even know the metal ones exist so i finally had to get them too. They are heavy, probably plated brass. The plastic ones don't feel that great so I guess the brass dies were a later revision. As for the press itself. Super heavy, very precise. I had to adjust the upper die holder spring. It didn't hold the dies firmly so I heated the part with gas torch and did some adjusting.

Don't buy those cheap Chinese ones because they don't line up. There are many on the market. Buy the best that you can afford.  There is plenty of info on this site about the type of tool you are after just do a search.
