Introduction - newbie looking for help with old digital watches

Hi all, I'm new to this, but I just got an urge to buy some second hand digital watches online and now I want to learn how to fix and restore them (and others surely). Not sure how to introduce myself... I'm South African, live in Belgium, and work as a visual designer.

On to the good stuff! I bought a Pulsar  Y799-5039 (digital) and a Y651-5000 (ana-digi). Neither have arrived yet, but from what I know:

The Y799-5039 looks like it's never been worn, and is not in working condition. Assuming it's not as easy as putting in a fresh battery, are there common reasons why I watch may have never been working in the first place?

The Y651-5000 will just be cleaning the exterior up mostly, so I'll try my hand at buffing small cracks out of crystal glass and getting scratches out of the metal casing etc.

Any advice, I'd love to hear it. Is there a section on this forum for digital watches? Or am I in the wrong place entirely?
