New Toy

Hi,

I don't know about everyone else, but I often find myself spending more time and money on purchasing tools than watches :). This is my latest purchase arrived today - can't really call it vintage, but I have only found it for sale at Ofrei for large amounts of money (http://www.ofrei.com/page236.html).

I got it from the same seller on German EBay as I've bought a lot of tools. The prices seem more reasonable and they often have items (like this) that don't torn up elsewhere. As you can see the entire back row of dies is missing. Looking at the current Sternkreuz catalogue those are all the dies for fancy shapes. Anybody got any spare ;)? Everything else is there apart from whatever is supposed to go on the left. It is marked Glasabzieher No 881 - I can't find any information on what that is. I'm also not sure about the two brass pieces at the front right, and the two circular pieces I put in front which have no place. I think the plastic pieces are from something else.

I particularly like the set of adapter spindles that come with it - this is a photo of the extra one they sent. This means that not only will it take any Sternkreuz plastic/Bakelite die of which I already have a set, but with take any standard screw dies.

At first I couldn't figure out why the press was lifted proud of the board. After a bit of fiddling, and noticing the screw hole on the back of the press, I realised it was so the press can be mounted horizontally as well as vertically. What I can't figure out is the purpose of this. Anybody any clues?

Stephen

Thanks guys, I'm very pleased with it, looking forward to cleaning it tomorrow. Looking again at the Sternkreuz catalogue those two spare round plastic pieces are from a different set and are dies for mineral glasses. Also the two brass pieces at front right definitely don't belong, there are supposed to be two convex rubber chucks there. The brass pieces don't seem to fit at all and have no markings. I'm most intrigued though by the possible horizontal positioning though - why?

On German EBay at the moment there is another set, don't know if I can put a link to a live auction, but I found it by searching Sternkreuz. This set has all the fancy dies missing as well, but it has the tool that should be on the left hand side with it. Even though I can now see what is meant to be there, I have no idea what it is for. Google translate just comes up with glasswiper, which doesn't really help. Any suggestions?

Stephen
