Rolex 1030 (Ref 6542) Gilt Dial Removal

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I am about to service a Rolex 6542 (yes, the grail watch) and want to make sure I understand the dial removal. It’s a 1030 (More accurately, a date 1036) movement. These early gilt dials don’t have dial feet and are friction fit. My question is; are there any tricks or obstacles to remove these types of dials? I assume just gentle lifting around the dial edge will do it but wanted to ask before I embark, as these dials are quite valuable. Any tips are appreciated.  Thanks!
