hi. a friend of mine give me an estima travel clock to look at for a neighbour of his;(a widow) it has sentimental  value although it is not worth much! when i opened it i found that the clock ticked away merrily (as it is now at my side) as long as it was face down. any other position it stopped. i know the balance assembly is different here with the balance wheel at the bottom of a pivot and the hairspring at the top! when i looked the wheel was engaging the escape wheel ok and the hairspring looked flat without any kinks. any ideas?

I would love to see pictures of it.  As to ideas, I would start with cleaning it first.  Once you know it isn't being bogged down by old dirt, then you can more effectively search for problems.  If it still stops after cleaning, I would look first at the balance pivots and bearings/bushings.  And then work up the train from there.
