Hello again. Can anyone assist with information as to purchasing a replacement mainspring for a Seiko 7009a? When use my Chinese set the winder fails to engage the spigot. I have tried to manually wind the spring into the winding barrel. I have broken my two remaining springs. I have looked on Cousins UK but have failed to  locate any such replacements. Can anyone help with a location for purchase please. Thank you

Thank you for that. I had seen that one. Is the 7005 compatible with the 7009?

Hello again. Request for more information please.

I have a mainspring winder set that I wish to use. However I seem to have hit a problem.

My question is this. When I come to inset the winder spigot into the mainspring, invariably the hole is larger that then size of the spigot. The hook will not hold the spring and allow a wind. 

As many of you are expert in this field and must have overcome this problem yourselves. How do you make the centre of the spring smaller? What tool do you use.

I'm no expert but had the same issue today. I just used my brass tweezers to gently decrease the diameter of the inner coil by both squeezing the coil and grabbing the coil and giving it a very small "twist" towards the inside of the curl, walking the tweezers up towards the coil terminus as I went. I wasn't trying to decrease the diameter with one big bend but rather a series of very small bends. Note, this was because the barrel arbor didn't want to hook onto the spring, not the mainspring winder. You could try using a winder arbor that is one size bigger than the one you are now using while still using the same size winder.

Hi, A new barrel complete can be bought on eBay for just over £20 with shipping included. Search for seller dalbeattie9 . I have bought one and it works great in my 7009 Seiko Actus. Wouldn't buy NOS as the spring is likely to be set after so many years. Steve.

Try using 8200 in chinese winder and left rotating

      Hi @Roll1ex, welcome to WRT. Is there a big second hand watch market in Mumbai? I seem to see a lot of used watches and clocks on eBay coming from Mumbai.  I used to buy a watch every month from Mumbai on eBay. My mentor told me it was the best way to learn watch repair, by fixing everything that's not right.

      Here is another option, if you have the patience to sort through the parts you usually find 50-100 screws as well as some other cool stuff. Most times I get an order from these guys I get a 250g box, takes a few days, but end up with hundreds of spares and all you need is for one of them to be useful and it pays for itself. Also helps hone your tweezer skills!

      As Hector said they have too much  tension, that tension is also fixed and not easy to control. Conventional tweezers have infinitely variable grip provided by us.

      Thank you and i appreciate that, it looks very different    Thank you sir but i think there is a little problem according to that reading it's because it is far different to the other move that i serviced, i will atouched the photo. They are different movements but this one is 7s26b movement and they are also different in shape when it comes to the ballance assmebly. Thanks also for the concerned i appreciate that.

      Donor movement showed up, so I stole the bridge screw from it. Which made me sad, because it's in such nice shape! It seems a shame. Maybe I'll find a use for it one of these days. Unfortunately, the stem is for a different style of case and is much too short. Fortunately, I ordered a brand new stem from McCaw Company. Unfortunately, the crown on the donor movement is thoroughly stripped out (it unscrewed in a shower of brass) so i just put the old stem back in for now until I source a new crown. As you can see, it's just a little too long for this case. Overall I'm super pleased. I didn't think I'd like the bracelet, and even that is growing on me.   Anyone have a favorite crown assortment?
