I purchased a Seiko Scuba Diver with 7002A movement on eBay. It's a Frankenseiko with a bunch of aftermarket parts. The price was right and I could not resist. The case and movement seem to be original, everything else is aftermarket. Seller said it was serviced but i'm pretty sure it was not.

I'll try to describe the problem. When I first got the watch I adjusted the time and gently shook it for 5 minutes straight. I know the 7002 movements take a good while to wind up fully. I wore the watch for 3 days straight (while sleeping too) and noticed one morning it stopped. Thought maybe it's not getting enough movement on my wrist. I unscrewed the crown and pulled it out to adjust time. As soon as I moved the hands, the watch started to work again. The watch gains 2 minutes a week. So whenever I adjust the time, 3-4 days later the watch randomly stops and starts again once I pull out the crown and give the hands a little nudge.

Does it simply need a servicing?

If it's that intermittent it could likely be some like debris catching in the movement. Try taking the movement out and giving it a good blow with an air blower (hand bulb, not compressed air), and the inside of the case too. Once you've made sure it's as close to clean as possible put it back together and see how it runs. If it continues to stop randomly it's probably time for a service.

I did have an issue with a seiko stopping at the same time past every hour, turns out it was the hands catching which was pretty easy to resolve.

Not quite the same thing though.

Hi things that can stop a watch are many couple that with the fact it’s a Frankenstein watch . There may be parts in the watch which are not that compatible and causing you problems.  The only way is to dismantle the watch and rebuild checking as you go that all the component parts are free and operable as you go. Check the running out of the case for 24hrs if ok then case up. If you have no TG it’s impossible to check it’s performance (traces) as they go some way to giving clues as to problems.  A picture or two always helps.

So  if you don't adjust the time, it keeps on running? only gains 2min/ week.
