Puw 1561 Barrel

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to open up the barrel for a PUW Cal 1561 Auto movement to check out/clean-up the mainspring?   It appears to have two halves which both have gear teeth on them which rotate seperately.  I guess one half does the winding-up and the other drives the wheel train but cannot figure out how the spring sits in whatever half !!

The plot thickens !!!!!!!!!!

Managed to get barrel apart by simply twisting apart in the spring unwind direction.  The arbor is ring shaped and may be welded to the top part, with an axle inside the arbor, the axle then fits in a tube in the lower part which holds the spring.  Very unusual !!

Having removed the spring I find it has no slipping attachment but the barrel seems to have a series of slots in the barrel wall which can be seen in pic attached at approx 10 o'clock. Could this mean that the end of the spring will slip until it comes to a slot then stop.

Interesting that the autowind mechanism has a stop click fitted to the reversing gears etc.

A picture from the web of this movement (from watchguy) shows a dismantled barrel with spring intact and this spring seems to have the normal slipping attachment, as does the new spring in its holder before fitting.     Can anyone help with what the spring should be like?

If the spring is in fact correct what lube would is used on the barrel wall (I have Moebius 8217) ?

Some pics attached for info.
