Oops

Hi folks,

So, I’m pretty sure I have made a problem.  

I’m fiddling with a manual wind, really just getting a feel for what the parts are.  It WAS working, albeit losing 15 mins per day.  I know I shouldn’t have done this, but I took off the balance wheel and bridge and possibly the train (can’t really remember the order now, although I know I had them off at some stage). And then, I took off the ratchet wheel.  I didn’t touch the crown or the dial side because I’m still waiting on delivery of the smaller screwdrivers I need.  I got it back together, but now it doesn’t wind properly or go.  

Could somebody please tell me what I’ve done and whether it can be rectified.

Shake the watch, see if the oscilator turns with a good amplitude and the fork snaps back& forth, does the escape wheel turn?

Add power to any gear you have access to see if it starts running.

When you say it doesn't wind, does ratchet wheel turn as you wind through the crown?  see if you can wind through the ratchet wheel.

The ratchet and crown turn and I can see that the barrel is turning, but I’m pretty sure nothing is happening.  Could I have broken the spring?

are you definately sure you have seated all the train wheels back correctly and in their jewels.

Barrel is suppose to turn but " real slow"  like three turns in 24hrs, so seeing it turn means its disengaged and power is not transmitted into the train, turn every gear of the train the , oscilator should oscilate at some point.

Thanks for your comments.  I checked the train wheels (thanks Stretch) and that turned out to be the problem.  It took ages to get them right, but it’s working again.

What a simultaneously frustrating and exhilarating hobby!
