Hello,

I'm a newbie to the clock refurbishment game, but I'm loving it so far! Got myself a 'spares or repair' Smiths Enfield bakelight mantle clock to try and bring back to life. Have managed to get it ticking and got some hands on ebay. However I'm baffled by the fact that the minute hand will not budge at all to advance the time despite it moving fine when driven by the movement. I was hoping to avoid a full dismantling as I think it will be too much for me at the moment.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - John.

Thank you!

Crikey, can't believe it, I put a couple of drops of oil on the minute hand shaft as it passes through the workings and low and behold a couple of hours later and it's loosened up and I can now turn the cogs with the hand. I guess it must have been jammed up somewhere. Very happy!

Onwards and onwards!

Cheers - John.

Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum.

We all look forward to your contributions and continued involvement.

Any problems with clocks I'm your man. Take nice clear photos of the movement and case that always helps.

Thank you. I will certainly remember that. I'm sure I will have more questions as I progress with the project.

Regards - John
