Broke out my new digital microscope for inspection. Both ends look like this. 

Movement is a UMF 24-34 jump hour from a Ruhla Digital that is otherwise in excellent condition. 

I see that there is a Ronda balance staff available on ebay. But of course there is just the drawing of the standard balance staff on the packet and no picture of the actual item, and it looks like UMF did some strange things here. That the roller table is integral. 

Or, did they just do them conical like this in the GDR?

If you have a lathe, you can reshape it to a sharp point then adjust the cups to get the correct amount of endshake.

Anyway, here's the matching bearing after careful cleaning.

well, I've bought another watch that has a UMF 24 in it on ebay. A less interesting version of the 24, but the balance should be the same, and hopefully it's good.
