Thank you all however Christians never shows the actual fitting technique and Nicks shows it installed and uncoiled and looks a bit backwards to me. I got the spring from Cousins and it's in a keep. Guess you just lay it on the barrel and tap it with a hammer?

No hammer required, just push it in with your fingers. Check the direction of the coil from these links before doing it. Also you should put a touch of braking grease on the internal walls of the barrel before inserting the spring.

One way to go at it is following the direction of the spring starting from the barrel arbor. The "double end" of the spring is usually trying to go the opposite way therefore the "S" shape you see when uncoiled. Once you figure it out on your head it is easy to place it in the barrel winding in the proper direction. From the barrel you go clock wise since it actually go counter clockwise from the arbor...it is just a relative reference. I hope I didn't confuse you more....
