Hi all,

I've been asked to have a look at a relation's clock. So far, all my workshop time has been dedicated to watches but I feel the two items are closely related in their DNA. Question about lubrication - would D5 oil be suitable for gear pinions given its medium to high torque applications? My intention is to strip, clean, lube and reassemble. For clarity, a gentle flick on the balance sees it tick a few times then stop. To the owners knowledge, it has never been serviced.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Weasol, thanks for the reply.

Watches are my main pursuit so wasn't looking to start amassing clock orientated tools etc. Just watching a video on YouTube and the chap was talking about the mainspring barrel specifically and mentioned D5 as appropriate.

Thanks again Weasol. I've gone for DX paste on the barrel arbour and D5 on all the gear wheel pivots. Final job is clean and reassemble the balance. I'll use 9415 for the pallet fork jewels.
