Making Watch Hands Black?

I have a client who can't see her watch hands and wants me to color them black. What would you suggest to color them with?

I would remove the lume from the hands and replace it with black enamel (or any other colour). I use automotive touch up paint for this and apply it the same way you would apply new lume to the hands.

Remove the hands and lightly a rare them with 600 wet or dry paper.

Sharpen a couple of pieces of pegwood and mount the hands.

Use a can of matt black spray paint and gently mist the hands.

Leave to harden for a day in warm dust free area.

Refit hands.

Job done! :)

Buy a new set of hands with the right holes in a contrasting color. This shape shouldn't be too hard to get and is inexpensive in comparison with the cost of the lume. For the correct hand measurements you may need to find out what caliber is the movement inside (movement number).
