Chronostop Hairspring Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! New here and was wondering if anyone knows how to reattach the hairspring to its post. It's through the guides okay but has slipped out of its attachment. I wish I knew better terminology! There is a screw which I'm certain sets the tension, and what looks like a split pin that holds the spring in place. Geo? I saw where you have some experience with this. Watch was running a little fast and when I tried to adjust the spring it slipped out! Any help is very appreciated. I have some experience tinkering, but no formal training. Spring looks good otherwise! Thanks!

Photo's would be a big help.

It is either pinned or glued. If it's pinned you will see a tiny pin and a piece of the hairspring where it broke off. For those you need to remove the pin and broken hairspring, re-insert the hairspring in the hole and re-install the pin to secure it in place making sure that it all lines up properly. Not an easy task at the best of times.

If it's a glued in type, it's a bit easier, you need to clean out any remaining glue from the stud carrier, then apply a small amount of epoxy and reinsert the hairspring and line it all up and let it harden.

Here's picture of one I purchased with a faulty hairspring.  I have a new complete balance/hairspring assembly to replace this one, but not before I practice a bit of manipulation on the old one.

Geo, it's a cal. 920 "driver" like yours. What I need is a pic of the under side of the of the bridge to see how the hairspring is oriented where the pin and stud is. I'm guessing it's the pin type. There is def a type of pin that is inserted into a whole and I'm guessing the screw in your pic is what applies tension to that pin. I just don't know how it looked before it slipped out. I'm headed to work soon so I will post pics if I can!
