removing the works from an antique Fortissmo watch

I am working on my fathers old Fortissimo watch. I pried the back off of the case and the movement came out with the back. The case for the movement seems to be attached to the case back. In order to separate the movement from  the case housing the stem and crown have to be removed. There doesn't seem to be a method to remove the stem, there is no notch in the case.
