Case tube removal

no-time

Recommended Posts

Now that I've introduced myself :) I'm a beginner.

The screw-down crown is not screwing, as far as I can tell the tube is not threaded.

1. How do I remove the tube?

2. Once the tube is removed I have to check that it is the tube that's faulty and not the crown?

3. I have to measure the tubes width and length to find the replacement tube?

Thanks. 5981e670f56eccf9e76c7785f8757db5.jpg4b7b3a102fdc6c89d4e3bcc51303aa4f.jpg

Welcome to the forum.  From what I can see (in Close up) the inside of the tube carries a thread, Therefore the the crown tube has a thread and screws down on to the tube. Either one could be stripped so carefully check both out before attemping to remove the tube. Remove the crown from the stem and inspect the crown tube

When I remove the crown from the stem, where do I hold the stem from?

Say 0 is near the crown and 10 is the end of the stem the opposite side, where shall I grip the stem?

My pliers aren't very good, i need to buy a decent pair from Cousins UK.

There is a flat section of the stem usually, which is nearer "10". From "10", there is the tip, the square, and then the notch.... the flat section should be next, before the threading starts. Grip here with a pin vice.

For the pendant tube, punch it out with a punch which has a size which is just marginally under the width of the tube. Use a lightweight hammer and keep tapping.

Test old crown with new pendant tube before fitting.
