Everytime I work on a 7750 I have an absolute nightmare fitting the chrono hand back to the 12 position. When the dial has markers all the way around it is very obvious when it is not central.

I'm using a hand press to set the hands, the red type you see all over ebay. Even with this device pressing straight down for some reason the hand always moves slightly when pressed down.

I've tried using my tweezers to nudge it slightly but it just springs back to where it was pressed on, I don't t want to nudge it too hard just in case the hand bends.

Can anyone share any wisdom, how I can do this task better?

I just press the tip of the hand down at the center of the 12 marker with a finger as I push on the plunger. With the hour and minute counters I just adjust the alignment by rotating the plunger as I'm pressing down. Also you might hear some people tell you to hold the reset button in as you install the hands. Does nothing here so save yourself the effort. It does press the hammer into the hour recorder but only the hour recorder, and when you let go of the reset and the brake comes to mesh with the teeth on the hour recorder wheel chances are the hand will be shifted out of alignment.

You need the correct movement holder which allows you to depress the the chrono button whilst fitting.

I have it but see post above, it's been a debate previously as well, whether that actually achieves anything

I should have mentioned the correct holder also supports the centre arbour which is important when fitting tight hands which is the normal scenario with chrono's

    • To start searching for hands, measure the diameter of the hour wheel where the hour hand attaches, and the tip of the cannon pinion where the minute hand attaches. Use calipers that are accurate to 0.01mm, and then you can look around ebay for hands about the right size. It is typical to have to either close down (concave punch) or broach open the pipe when fitting hands since you won't usually find a set that is the exact diameter of your hour wheel & cannon pinion. It is reasonable to work with something about +/- 0.03mm  Measure the thickness of the 4th wheel extended pivot for a seconds hand. Cousins does sell some new hands for pocket watches, but I don't find them suitable for old watches. They just don't look right so instead I managed to win an auction on an enormous assortment of old hands. It's sort of fun to pick through them and measure to find a workable pair. I use this tool to measure hands:

    • I'm looking for hands (3) & a crystal (4cm dia.) for my watch Serial No. 85590 as shown in the photo. I'd be grateful for suggestions re potential sources; and to know if uv glue would be suitable for re-fixing the 12mm dia. seconds dial.

    • Welcome to the forum, enjoy. The issue is watches that are sold as  waterproof are only valid if serviced and fitted with new gaskets fitted particularly those that are around the stems.A picture of the watch would be helpful for a better analysis..
