File and graver recommendation

Can anyone recommend files for stem making (filing the flats)?  I'm looking at some gobets that are 4" and have one safe edge.  Would these work and what is the minimum set of cuts I need?  Second, does anyone know where to get a tungsten or carbide lozenge graver?  I can find some good hardened steel Mueller ones but nothing other than HSS.  I haven't bought a graver in over 20 years and I'm finding they aren't as commonly carried as they used to be.  Also, GRS seems to have taken over the market; it's harder to find other brands now.  I always though GRS was way overpriced so I always bought Muellers and Vallorbes.  That was for jewelry work, not watch repair.  Thanks again!  Dan.

Stubbs were made in Sheffield, many years ago when we still had a thriving steel industry. You can still buy new-old-stock files. I would have imagined that the Americans would have made files which were superior to the Swiss.

    • Thanks for all the replies.  I'll investigate further.  I never noticed the lip and @Michael1962, I think I will have to form a tool to undo the ring and see what happens. I'll see if I can get some more pics.
    • Hi John, The most important parameter of the spring is the thickness. The lenght is something that one would not consider as obligatory, as relatively big variations will not affect anything in significant way. The barrel size is related to the barrel and has nothing to do with the spring. Yes, the spring is designed to work in a barrel and the size of the barrel matters, but let this parameter be chosen by the movement manyfacturer, not by the sping manyfacturer who doesn't have idea in what kind of movement the spring will work. Sometimes the washer in which the spring arrives will be bigger than the barrel and there will be no way to just push the spring in the barrel and be happy. Well, if this is a problem for somebody, then probably He is a person with to many problems that will be verry hard to help to in any way. By the way, why You are changing the spring? Is the old one broken?
