Are these any good for watch work? I'm looking to get a lathe, but not 100% sure what is best. following 2 of these on an auction site.

Hi Lee,

I sold a lot of bits for one of these last year and the quality is quite good, but not in the same league as the likes of Boley, Levin etc.

For watch work, get one with a collet spindle and a set of collets. The accuracy from this is way better than a three jaw chuck, even a new one.

Personally I think you would be better getting a proper watchmakers lathe, although the versatility of the Emco with all it's attachments is quite awesome. Great if you are a model maker!

I forgot to mention, although the collets will give you the accuracy you require, you will not get anything like the range you need to suit horology work.
