Goliath Pocket Watch Rebuild Broken Lever Set Spring (?) Advice

Beagle2

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm attempting my first pocket watch rebuild.

It's a 'goliath' in a nickel plated 'Argentan' case (near identical to 3rd pic)

It went back together ok (thanks to Mark's fine youtube videos)...

However, the pin-set button did not retract properly.

Disassembling shows the small spring controlling the lever has now broken...

What is its correct name?

And where can I get a spare?

CousinsUK.com sells 'Shepherds Hook Springs'

https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/shepherds-hook-springs-wristwatch

However, these are for watches and look too small?

Thank you

Thanks Szbalogh, how do you mean exactly...

Can you cut a strip off a blade and secure it as a sprung bar?

I'd rather replace if possible. Does the spring have a special name?

Cheers

Yes exactly. One can just cut a strip from a razor blade with a good scissors. Then one can try to form the shape, if it breaks then use the trick. Annel it in flame to make it soft then bend to shape. And finally just heat up again to red and drop in cold brine. If to strong then buff the edges.

Good find oldhippy! This guy has some fine stuff... for those have a keen eye to recognise :)
