If the circuit boards gone then that's it.

I'd try to jerry rig another coil and see what happens.

Nothing's happened because that's exactly what is supposed to happen.

I'm attaching the service guide I remembered this when I've service these before the battery contact does not go on top. It actually goes under the circuit board.

I thought I might have been able to help you out as I knew I had a quartz Cartier buzzing around somewhere.  It's a different calibre though, looks much newer.
