The drilling attachment I got with my recent new to me 6mm Wolf & Jahn lathe works with these classic spade-type drills, but is not big enough to hold the 3,17mm shanks of the carbide drills I also have.

Online I found ER collet holders with cylindrical extended shanks. There are also versions available that hold ER8 collets and have a 6mm shank. Combined with a 7mm OD, 6mm ID brass tube, I now have something that works. Turning it doesn't show any wobble under my microscope, so I guess it is accurate enough.馃槂

I take it Case.... you just manually feed the drill bit by turning the 6mm shaft through the brass sleeve ? The tailstock on my  8mm WJ is identical with a 7mm aperture that takes the standard sleeve for the WJ drill feed  ...but same as yours it only holds the old pivot drills, think I'll go your way ...the freehand drilling was a little risky. Did you say Aliexpress for the ER holder ?

Yep Aliexpress. The 6mm shaft now slides and rotates freely in the brass sleeve.

It shouldn't be too difficult to make and attach some kind of lever thingy like the original WJ drilling attachment has.

Just a simple knob should also work fine.

    • Welcome to WRT @EtherJunky. Sorry about all your accidents but it's not advisable to sniff ether while watchmaking. 馃ぃ
    • Hello and welcome to the forum.
    • To lift the fork when bottom pivot is in jewel , rodico, I have broken one pivot myself and I know how easy it can happen.   As JohnR says , there shouldn't be any oil on fork pivot/jewel , yet there is often the problem of previous watch destroyers who might have lubricated them. I usually flip the movement ( mainplate up ) and tap on mainplate which often causes the fork to fall out .  Let keep it a secret just between the two of us, I have broken escape pivot too. 馃 Regs
    • I can't seem to get the crown off of the stem that rotates the inner bezel in this Elgin compressor-style case. I assume the crown comes off like a normal crown by turning CCW but I can't seem to get a good purchase on the gear part to allow me to unscrew the crown. Considering the rust on that gear part I wouldn't be surprised if the stem and crown are rusted too. I have removed the inner bezel that is shown in the photo and thought about using a pin vise to grab that gear but am afraid I will damage it and would never be able to find a replacement. Any suggestions on getting the crown off?
    • Pallet fork pivots should have a minimum amount of oil if any, depending on caliber size. Therefore, if you see any amount of whatever oil someone applied on those pivots - be careful. You can always check if pallet fork is moving freely before lifting the pallet cock. I've seen same scenarios with old 18s pocket watches. Some dried red gummy stuff. I had to lightly push down top pivot while gently lifting the pallet cock. Use sharpen peg wood  - same type that is used to clean hole jewels.
