So I received the Seitz tool from ebay but one of the two index pins that are under the micrometer is stuck in its hole. They have a spring under them that pushes the pin up as the micrometer is screwed up or down.

I tried putting a drop of oil in and then a drop of liquid wrench, let sit overnight hoping the spring would pop it up but no joy. I tried heading up the outside a little with a hair dryer and then with a screwdriver turned the pin left and right a bit but nothing. the fact that I can turn the pin says it's not seized up.

I suppose the Swiss make a watch size easy-out but there must be a better way. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem. See here:

Ultrasonic, didn't think of that.  I'd be a bit concerned about the finish but pahaps 2 or 3 minutes in a water solution would not hur it.  Thanks, I may give it a try.

Drill a small hole in it and then either use a screw extractor or wedge a taper in it to pull it out.

Ok, so I took the smallest drill bit I had and drilled down and after a bit it came out, spinning with the bit.  Thanks. I actually drilled through the top and into the cavity where the spring rests.  No big deal and I can always shop for a spare.

The only thing I think I need to do is somehow clean out the hole a bit.  It's 4mm and both pins are a bit tight in spots as well as a pusher I tried from the set, so there is corrosion or dried up oil on the cylinder walls I guess.

Any idea how to best do that?
