I've been working on an Elgin 823 movement and now I know a bunch of reasons why I should've started with a working movement for my first watch. I've launched many pieces and I've found things rusted into place (balance arbor on one movement and the pallet fork bridge screw on the other) and have spent many times what I bought the watch and sacrificial movement for on replacement parts for things that I've launched into space.

But back to my question: is there some trick to getting the tri-lobed balance spring installed back into the movement? I've spent all afternoon chasing the springs as they go pinging across my desk only to lose them eventually. Now that I've cracked the last one I have, I'm thinking there must be some trick other than just practice. Or is it just practice? I can't seem to get them back in unless I forget to put the cap jewel in.

One last complaint for now: I wish someone would've told me how screws (on the pallet fork bridge in my case) can be so rusted into place that I could ruin the tips of my Bergeon screwdrivers. I think I fixed the tips with my sharpening stone. I have to stop watching videos of people who only post their successes, which is EVERYONE who posts a video.
