Hi all! I stumbled upon this forum while researching how to repair my new-to-me American Waltham 1890 SN# 6922351 14K solid gold pocket watch. I bought it knowing it doesn't work. The previous owner said it was working but stopped shortly before selling it. When the crown is turned either way it makes the same rapid clicking sound and there is no resistance meaning nothing is tightening/winding. I can set the time without issue. I'm also able to open both the hinged front and back covers. I've never done watch repair and my other antique pocket watches run very well. Any guidance will be much appreciated it!

I've included pics (please ignore the dog hair 😂).

Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum.

We all look forward to your contributions and continued involvement.

It sounds like the mainspring has broken. A solid gold case with a low grade movement. Normally the better high end movements in solid gold cases. I wonder if it's the original movement.
