I keep working on clocks so I can have something to post in the Clock Corner--clocks need a little love 😍

I recently finished another Seth Thomas E701 electric clock.  Very complex setup, but a fun clock to work on!! It is running like a champ!!!

Anyway, the wife complains that it is too loud.  I have another one that seems to be softer (not as loud).

The hammers have leather tips which are probably original.  I wonder if it is worth the effort to replace the leather, or alternatively soak the hammers in something used to soften leather.

This will not work overnight it will take time brush oil on the hamer leather. Have you tried to move the hammers slightly away from the gongs.
