Spring wire? Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi all.  I have a broken spring on a clock movement that I need to source and replace, but not sure of the correct name of the part.  It’s the thin ‘whisker’ type return spring used on hammer lift lever.  I’d refer to it as a hammer lift lever return spring but not sure if that’s the correct name.  Any idea where I can get replacements please?

Is this the same thing as a click spring wire?  https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/click-spring-wire

As longs as the gauge / thickness is OK, it should be fine.

You can also use thin piano wire, or non-wound electric guitar strings.

You can get those in different gauges to suit what you need, very cheaply from such as ebay or amazon - or music shops, if you have any nearby.

electric guitar strings

My son donates his broken guitar strings and I use them frequently for making replacement springs - as long as I can bend it to the right shape I get good results.
