Remove a stuck 1.20mm screw from a butterfly clasp

Recommended Posts

Hi! I've gotten this issue that I want to remove this butterfly clasp from this strap. But this tiny screw (I think it is 1.20mm) just won't move. The manufacturer's instruction said it should be turned counterclockwise to remove. I tried several high quality German and Swiss made screwdrivers of various sizes. I could get a tight fit of the screwdriver and used a lot of force pushing it down. But the only thing I achieved is stripping the head of the screw. I even destroyed two Bergeon screwdrivers in this process (twisted their heads).

Any advice is appreciated. Shall I use some penetration oil? Will they damage the leather next to it?

Thanks!

Are you sure it is a genuine one and not some reproduction. Many of these screws in fact do not screw in or out but are just dummies because they look good. As you have tried everything and buggered up screwdrivers and nearly taken the head off the screw It could be one of those dummies. Last resort a little WD40 might help.

This is a genuine strap and buckle from a MB&F MAD1. Their (pretty nice) instruction manual says that I could remove that screw by turning it counterclockwise. They didn't mention Loctite. I'll try some heat, penetration oil, and WD-40 and see if any of those could help. The situation that it is right next to leather limited my options.
